Gold Coast Braces for ‘Cyclone Over Land’
QUEENSLAND’S waterlogged southeast corner has been warned to brace for more flash flooding, as an intense monsoonal low dumps heavy rain across the region.
The severe weather warning issued by the bureau at 5.15am today is for areas including the Channel Country, Maranoa, Warrego, Central Highlands, Darling Downs and southeast Queensland.
Heavy falls are also expected across southern and central Queensland as the low moves across from the Northern Territory.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for central and southern and southeast Queensland, as the system tracks east.

Synoptic Situation: An intense monsoonal low, currently entering the Channel Country in SW Queensland is expected to produce areas of rain, heavy at times, over southern and central interior. Heavy rain is expected to cause localised flash flooding over parts of the Channel Country, extending east into the Maranoa and Warrego, southern Central West, southern Central Highlands and Coalfields, Darling Downs and SE coast forecast districts today. These conditions are expected to contract eastwards into Darling Downs, Granite Belt, Wide Bay, Burnett and SE coast districts on Tuesday.
The State Emergency Service advises that people in the affected area should: avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters Contact the SES on 132 500 for emergency assistance if required.
The next warning is due to be issued by 11am AEST Sunday This warning is also available through TV and Radio broadcasts; the Bureau’s website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 219. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate this warning being broadcast regularly.
